Isabella Liu has been a consistent admirable student who has been at the West California Academy of Art and Design for more than 10 years. Her journey began here at 7, creating work that demonstrates natural talent, refinement, and creativity.

Her development in the Academy has been crucial in visualization and execution in the evolution of her work as she submitted in various competitions, and more so now with an inspirational portfolio in her final year with us.

Isabella has demonstrated an increase production of sophisticated works and is considered a great talent among her peers. I would describe her as observant, trustful, sentimental.

She is a person who likes observing and taking in small details, valuing the small things and moments. Isabella always has a positive attitude bringing that to our Thursday Entertainment deign group. I believe it is due to her ability to stay determined and positive in any scenario, and I am sure she would continue to bring optimism to the student community at university.

Regarding her major- animation, students know that the work turned in will set the bar for the animation group. Her evolution is evident in her paintings, life drawing and digital skills. Isabella. She is committed to make an impression professionally.

She has always been drawn to imagination and fairy tales and fascinated how they influence culture and society in the entertainment field and with in the necessity of evolving this professional field.

Isabella says “Through animation, imagination can be pushed, and I’m able to tell stories and even share my own story. Animate literally means to bring life to something, and I love the emotion and liveliness that animators are able to put into their characters or stories. Whether it is working at a big industry like Disney or DreamWorks, I am just excited about creating a story. For those that may be experiencing a dark moment in their life, I want to use animation to tell them that it can.”

She has won the Rotary Interact Art Competition 2nd Place 2023and in 2024. This last year she placed in the top 3 for 2025. Isabella’s awards include a Senate art competition award for 16th fitness day and health fair.

Notable volunteering and community service include working with various groups. This includes beach cleanups, food bank events, events with senior citizens, and working for the benefit of children. Key Club and Art are two activities that she valued the most because this enabled her to incorporate her love for art into the Club as well as dedicating 3 days a week to art practice at our academy. Other activities within the club are publicity 2024: created/designed for the10 North Key Club Instagram posts for advertising meetings, events, and fundraisers.

In the Division Leadership Team, she was the Tech Editor 2025: created graphics for the Division 10 North Key Club Instagram. Finally, a member of the Month 2023 and Officer of the Month 2024. In the National Art Honor Society NAHS she was Vice President in 2024 with duties in assisting the president in delegating tasks, handling materials, and organizing/planning meetings. Eventually leading to become President in 2025. She is also part of the Crochet Club.

These experiences have lent to an SMHS Outstanding Community Service Award 2024: Awarded to students who complete the 50-hour community service requirement by sophomore year. An AP Scholar with Distinction 2025. She won the Titan Elite Scholar Athlete 2023: athletes who maintain a certain 4.0 GPA. At the Franklin Foundation Isabella also received a Certificate of Appreciation 2024 as she teaches every Sunday helping autistic children.

As a musician Isabella achieved the Music Teachers’ Association of California Level 9 Certificate of Merit Piano State Honors 2024. She has been an athlete in Track and Field JV - 1 year, Lend a Paw - 1 year, Piano - 2 years (during high school), Art - 3 years (during high school).
