She is honest, sincere, and conscientious of others as well as having strong empathy, approachability and integrity from her peers. I have worked with her under mentorship in our portfolio program where I have seen not only become a more focused individual in her carrier choice of illustration but to produce work that is reflective.

She has created a body of work that is suited for a contemporary audience as its stems from her traumatic experiences and an observation of societal trends. I witness a focus and drive as she is now in the forefront of transmission.

In our senior show Reminiscence, she was able to lead and take initiative as she worked tirelessly in finding a gallery space for the group. Though at the end it was decided to have the show at our schools, I was very impressed with her speed and initiative to get these connections. Ultimately it was scheduling that did not work in our favor but it was her initiation that I felt she had become an integral figure and leader.

This is also seen in other activities as Shuyan has been the president of a club at school, which has been a great opportunity to develop her leadership skills. She is also been a teaching assistant, helping others with their studies.
Outside of school, she currently teaches Chinese to students for half a year, and as she describes it as “a fulfilling experience to help them grow.”

In addition, Here Shuyan spends at least 9 hours a week, where she can focus on improving her artistic skills. She is always looking to improve and connecting with group by promoting student learning, activities for new students or members to feel welcomed. While balancing work at ONE Zo Boba Shop Academics AP Art and AP Photo, and currently tutoring two primary school students to learn Chinese.travel to tutor) she still manages to balance and create her art.

I have seen this student artist blossom into an independent thinker who will share her talent and gift to the world.
