Rice for Grace Wang Pursuing an Architecture Major!

We are happy to report Ziyan Grace Wang will be attending Rice University this fall.  I believe Grace has the tenacity and drive to flourish in this prestigious institute.

“Drawing has been my passion since I begin elementary school, and I further investigated and developed my skill in Art throughout my high school career.”She said, “In my work, I thrive to put emphasis on symbolism and the representation of human nature and social phenomenons.”

Grace has not only surprised all of us with a goal-oriented mindset that is magnified by her willingness to care for her peers. She stirs up conversation upon various art backgrounds as she is truly interested in all aspects. I see Grace ever more independent and in a very short amount of time has produce work that would take a year.

Her background is as colorful as she is in that she has participated in various events and has an extensive experience. Through her advanced STEM and arts courses, not only does the aesthetic visual concept translate but she can make abstract ideas into tangible forms in visual representations. She implements appropriate materials and skillsets in building symbolisms and language.

She is great with digital fabrication, modeling, & their applications. Thus exploring human relationships environment, particularly how architecture could be used to change the community and the ways we inhabit the earth.

Her activities are rich colorful involments including USC Exploration of Architecture this past summer program exploring relationship between space & structure to humans. Art Society Club where she revived the club, organized meetings & fundraising events portfolio workshops & critique sessions, increased membership by 20+ members.

She received President's Volunteer Service Award (Teen Gold, Young Adult Gold) National Merit Scholarship. WGASC Winter Guard, 2022, 2023, and AP Scholar with Distinction, became student of the Year, Computer Graphics, and 2022 Student of the Year in Fundamentals of Art class. In Cologuard, she performed at weekly football games & winter guard competitions and choreographed 2 original shows w/ team. She has been performing in Mock Trial- Competed in People vs. Gold case. Artist Contest: She learned to create courtroom sketches. At Giving Hope she organized fundraising events, managed club finances and created backpack gift packages for under resourced children and local food drives. For the Youth Development Resource Center, Grace taught Chinese & math to elementary students via zoom. Legacy Art Festival Hosted competition, increased awareness of traditional Chinese culture strengthening problem solving & leadership skills.

Grace is an avid crafter creating online content and formed a crafting community with 5.5 k members where she shared tutorials of original sewing patterns for “Nuiguriumi” dolls. 4.7 followers.  In her clubs, she understands the necessity of collaborating with and getting feedback from fellow artists such after school’s Art Society Club. When the club disbanded 2023, Grace revived the club to increase membership to 20+slowly rebuild this special community by organizing events for students to create art together, hosting meetings, life drawing sessions, and facilitate collaborative art projects creating an online platform for artists to share their work with peer feedback. She also prepared younger officers for continuity. Her Volunteering also continues online through teaching Youth Development Resource Center preparing weekly lessons to children ages 7 to 12 that introduces kids to Chinese history and culture. Beyond arts courses, AP Calculus and Physics classes have hone creative problem-solving skills and strengthen her technical abilities. She is very good at learning new technologies and has skills in software such as Adobe Suite and Rhino. Receiving help from a small online community enthusiasts and accumulated over 4.5k followers on social media and created group chats containing more than 5k members. Archery 5th star achievement pin in Jr. Olympics. California. classic 1440. Mexico volunteer trip. Orphanage. Transported food & goods to Casa Hogar Rosario Arrevillaga. Led group games & served lunch for children at group home.

Grace never stops as she is always motivated and wants to try various practices, disciplines and always to give back.
