We introduced iPad drawing into the art classroom not only to keep up with the trends and technological advancements in the art world but also to integrate art with technology, spark students' interest, and cultivate their hands-on skills and innovative thinking.

iPad drawing can mimic various artistic effects, such as oil painting, watercolor, ink wash, sketch art, anime, and even photography. The children already have some foundational drawing skills, and using the iPad allows them to reinterpret their artistic ideas through a new medium while refining their art techniques.

The software for this course is Procreate, which is great for beginners, but, can also be a great digital tool for advance students with strong foundation. The ease of utilization for younger students is attractive as they only need to use the brushes, possibly the eraser and color selectors. The variety of brush tools in Procreate makes it very easy to make something amazing with ease.

We have heard from pleased parents and students alike that children have continued to work with Procreate to complete assignments at school and or move into more advanced digital software like, Blender, Photoshop, Illustrator and others. Learning these digital tools develops a visual and technical vocabulary that also translates with ease into these advance medias in Adobe and other related media. This is problem solving and critical thinking at its best helping students visually express themselves creatively while taking other formal classes for a well balanced art and design education.

  1. iPad 2D Drawing and Animation, age:Beginner(10-11) and Advanced(12+)

Value:Beginner $320,Advanced $400

The iPad 2D Drawing and Animation Course introduces kids to the world of 2D drawing and animation in an intuitive and fun way. Using easy-to-learn animation software, students will start from scratch, learning how to bring their characters to life—from facial expressions to motion design, and even creating simple animations.

Throughout the creative process, children will not only learn to express ideas and tell stories through visuals but also develop focus, time management, and problem-solving skills. Completing their own drawing and animation projects step by step will help boost their creativity and confidence.

Animation is an art form that blends drawing and technology. By mastering iPad software, children can intuitively understand the animation production process, laying a solid foundation for future exploration in fields such as animation, gaming, and digital media.

Software used in the course includes Procreate (for drawing and animation)  and iMovie or CapCut (for editing). These apps are user-friendly yet feature-rich, and when paired with the flexibility of the iPad and Apple Pencil, they allow children to freely express their imagination and happily create their own mini-animations.

  1. Sketching, age:Beginner(8-11) and Advanced(12+)

Value:Beginner $320,Advanced $400

Sketching is fundamental for art students because it serves multiple essential purposes in their artistic development. It uses varying shades of black with subtle light and shadow transitions to depict a colorful, structurally complex, and three-dimensional world on a two-dimensional plane.

ree

Sketching helps students master the principles of perspective and basic methods of life drawing, understand how light affects an object's tonal variations, grasp spatial representation in art, and use gradations of light and shadow to convey a sense of volume, space, and texture.

ree

Sketching builds a strong foundation for advanced art and helps in understanding anatomy, perspective, and structure, crucial before moving on to painting, sculpture, or digital art.

ree

Sketching is a cognitive activity that requires strong logical judgment. Typically, elementary school-aged children’s comprehension skills are not yet developed enough to meet these demands. Introducing sketching too early and forcing them to draw using methods they don’t yet understand is counterproductive—it can stifle their imagination and creativity, doing more harm than good. Therefore, the ideal age for children to begin learning sketching is 12 years or older.

ree

However, this doesn’t mean that eight- or nine-year-olds should never learn sketching. Due to individual differences, some children successfully move beyond the golden stage of childlike drawing at an earlier age, developing sufficient objective perception and rational thinking skills. For such children, sketching instruction can begin earlier, but this should be based on teacher’s comprehensive assessment of the child’s learning abilities.
