Maggie Wu creates an environmental fashion artwork encompassing a range of creative decisions of expressive fashion construction. From the mixed media to, found objects and the traditional fashion construct, this ensemble focusses on our desire for a perfect garment and what it takes to get there. Even if it is at all costs. This includes affecting our environment and health. This visual art installation and fashion dress highlights our social obsession with fashion and textiles that can have devastating effects in our world. The chosen waste used in this art installation is either from wasted sources, consumed and then upcycled to art. The dyes in the clothing and the artificial colors can contaminate our eco systems that the botanical-dyed apparel may not. Why do companies make these devastating decisions-money saving or fast fashion output? Maggie asks these questions to the viewer. The following images showcase an intentional controversial sustainable fashion artwork.
This artwork goes beyond fashion as it is telling of our habits, which can have a long-lasting side effect. We see also in her process and inspiration the Pacific coast and how the change from the rich blues romanticized in picture perfect coasts to the brown collection of rot and trash overcoming the tranquility and adding to the climate changes we see today.
